ITS TOO DARN HOT IN KELONA

How hot is it in Kelona BC.  Too darn hot.  Its so hot that the dishes out of the cupboard are hard to handle.   The air conditioners are working to get it below 90 degrees C but arn’t making much headway after being on for over an hour.

We did go out this am, looking at motorhomes.  This is one of the best places to buy them we are told.  Found some nice rigs, at good prices.  Now all we need is a ship to come sailing in loaded with cash money!

Russ had to get his brakes done today.  They were tightened too much or something, and as a result had more than a cup full of dust in then.  We’ll be tackling some pretty daunting mountain roads tomorrow on the way to Hell’s Gate.so he felt it important to be able to slow down and stop.

Carol and I got dropped at a Mall while they went to the RV repair shop.  Managed to get our hair cut. Can’t say it was a successful mission.  Hair hack would be a better description.  I did manage to get some time in Chapters.  Funny though I couldn’t find a thing I wanted to buy.  Had a $25 gift card and eventually spent it on a map book of Vancouver and surrounding area.  Last time we stayed in Vancouver we used John’s and the pages were all falling out of it.

With wallets a little lighter we headed back to the campground sort of wondering why we had left the Mall with its lovely airconditioning.  The air in the RV can’t defeat the awful heat. We just
Was thinking It’s a dud day for wildlife - to be expected as we have not been out of the city - but then we were blessed with the passing of a flock of quail.  Adults and about 20 young came out of the long grass and rushes and made their way up the gravel lane in a combination of sauntering and pecking at the grit, and bursts of speed to catch up when they lagged behind.  With their pretty little top knot and their funny movement style they have been quite entertaining.  They were observed through the back window of the RV. It is just too hot to be outside.

Sitting here, hidden from the birds and such outside, provides a great opportunity to see what is often overlooked.  For example I watched a swallow feeding er young in mid-flight.

Apparently coyotes were quite noisy last night, waking Carol, Russ and Jack.  I slept through the yipping and howling but have threatened dire consequences if they don’t wake me for tonights seranade.

Heading out to Fraser Canyon tomorrow, so early start.  I’ll sure be glad to leave the Okanogan.  Too hot for this kid.  I’m eager to get to the coast.

We’re a little apprehensive about the climb out of here.  Several people have given us dire warnings about a huge hill, with a steep grade, and long   One guy said its 50 km uphill, and so steep that vehicles can’t do it or boil over.  Fun, fun, fun.

Personally I think they are full of it.  The route was developed for trucks.  If they can do it we can do it.

More next time
