Counting down to our cross North America Odyssy
We are on count down to our cross North America vacation. Eight days to take off and in the throes of packing, cleaning house for the “sitter”, getting the RV ready, and the multitude of chores that are part of traveling for several months.
Leaving is bitter sweet. Prince Edward Island is a wonderful place to be in Spring, Summer and Fall. We feel like we are saying good bye at the wrong time of year. Even so, we are going. For years we have longed to do this cross country journey in Summer when the parks, and seasonal attractions are open. Our long term plan is to spend winters away - to enjoy summers here so we have to buck up and enjoy this last week of PEI spring.
After our usual Sunday breakfast with friends (who will soon be our traveling companions) Jack and I washed, waxed and polished the RV. Then we grabbed the camera and set out in search of the tulip fields. A farming family here turned to tulips, for the fresh flower and bulb market, and I’m told the fields are a picture in spring. Never did find them, but we had a lovely ramble about the countryside. Happily snapping photos of glorious yellow fields and the lush and varied greens of spring.
For a few days in spring the Dandylion rules here creating a glorious landscape. Heck we even have a Dandylion Festival going on today to honour the yellow flower, and celebrate it as a culinary, folk medicine, and beautiful part of the environment.
We’ll miss the lupins, the wild roses and iris blooms. But the yellows, Dandylions and marigolds, have given us a taste of the glories on summer on our Island. The closer we get to leaving the more visual treats are presented. Today I saw lilacs
We look forward to a sampling of it elsewhere. Now if Jack can just resolve the noise he hears in the RV, and relax again.......
